Within the Mirror

Within the Mirror is the debut studio album by Serbian gothic metal band Demether. The album was released in 2004 by Serbian record label One Records. Moon Records released the album in 2005 for the Mexican market.

The album consists of 12 songs, ten regular and two bonus tracks. Bonus tracks are a chamber version of Silence and a version of Within The Mirror in Serbian.

Background

The release of the album came shortly after Demether won two competitions. In April 2004, they won the title of Best Demo Band at Demo Masters Tournament, a competition organized by Beograd 202 radio station. In August 2004, they won the jury’s award for the best band at Zaječarska Gitarijada.

The albums is dedicated to the memory of Danijela Stanišić (1982–2002).

Musical Style

Within The Mirror is considered to be a symphonic/power metal album with influences of gothic metal. The sound is based and build around strong keyboard melodies and operatic vocals from Dunja Deurić.

Recording Process

The recording of the album occurred in October and November 2004 at Alpha Studios in Novi Sad. The drums were recorded in October 2004 in Berar Studios in Novi Sad. All songs are composed, arranged and produced by Damjan Deurić. The album is mixed and produced by Vladimir Guzina, co-producer and engineered by Božidar "Chameleon" Nikolić, while the drums engineering did Mario Burka. Within The Mirror features special appearances of Branislav Kolarski (growl vocals), Arpad Nagy (violin), Božidar Nikolić (guitars) and Maja Hadži-Ilić (Silent Stream).
