Wisconsin Restaurant Association Education Foundation
The WRA Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization operated by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association that has been in existence since 1987. As one of the nation’s largest state restaurant association foundations, the Education Foundation serves the foodservice industry in Wisconsin. It has no dues-paying members and is fully funded through donations, grants, underwriting of programs and program revenue.
The Education Foundation vision is to advance professionalism through education, scholarships and community involvement to ensure the future success of the foodservice industry.
ServSafe Risk Management Training
- ServSafe Food Safety Training. The WRA Education Foundation offers food safety training, certification and recertification programs to meet Wisconsin’s statutory food protection manager certification requirements and to reduce risks of foodborne illness.
- ServSafe Responsible Alcohol Training. The Responsible Alcohol Training and Certification program outlines effective alcohol service practices and team-based prevention of difficult intoxication situations for all front-of-the-house staff, including bartenders, waiters, hosts, bussers, security and valets. The ‘’primary’’ examination satisfies the Wisconsin state bartending training requirements.
ProStart High School College Prep Program
The ProStart program, administered by the National Restaurant Association Solutions, LLC and state restaurant associations, is a two-year curriculum designed to teach high school students the management skills needed for a career in the restaurant and hospitality industry. When students meet academic standards, complete a checklist of competencies, and participate in at least 400 hours of a mentored work experience, they are awarded the ProStart National Certificate of Achievement that signifies they are well qualified to enter the industry workforce.
ProStart is a registered trademark of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation and is used under license by National Restaurant Association Solutions, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Restaurant Association.
Scholarships and College Programs
The WRA Education Foundation annually awards over $40,000 in scholarships to culinary arts and hospitality management students across Wisconsin. The Foundation awards scholarships based on future plans in the foodservice industry, academic records, essays on industry issues and employee or instructor recommendations. Funding for scholarships is provided by the Foundation’s Endowment Fund and the NRA Educational Foundation.
Seminars
The WRA Education Foundation hosts a variety of educational seminars at the Wisconsin Restaurant Expo. Seminar content offers relevant and functional solutions to today’s issues in foodservice, including management tools, menu development, food safety, human resources, and more. Foodservice professionals can receive continuing education units (CEUs) for attending selected seminars at the Expo.
