William Steinberg (politician)

William Steinberg was born in Montreal in 1948 and grew up in the Town of Hampstead of which he is currently the Mayor. Steinberg has a BSc from McGill, a Phd in psychology from Northwestern University and was a professor at Concordia University. He is the founder of William Steinberg Consultants Inc., a survey and human resource Software company. He is also the President of CIRA (Cochlear Implant Recipient Association).

When the Town of Hampstead was merged to the city of Montreal, Bill Steinberg formed and led the team that succeeded in getting their town back. This hard-fought grass-roots victory spurred Dr. Steinberg to start a career in politics, as the Mayor of Hampstead.

Steinberg was elected Mayor of Hampstead in 2005, in a race against 27 year incumbent, Irving L. Adessky, and former city councilor, Gerald Kessner. Mayor Steinberg is running for re-election in 2009.

Bill Steinberg is the son of the late Morris Steinberg (of the Steinberg's grocery chain) and Clara Steinberg. He is married to Dr. Doris Staniszewski-Steinberg and has two children, Tara and Craig. His two siblings are, Jonathan Steinberg and Ivy Steinberg-Quayle.
