William Kawam

William Joseph Kawam (born April 4, 1991) is an American sports agent and former hockey player from Whippany, New Jersey.

At an early age, Kawam spent his summers in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, training at the prestigious Twist Conditioning, alongside current NHL players, Morgan Rielly, Jordan Weal, Mike Santorelli and Karl Alzner. Kawam played hockey for Seton Hall Preparatory School in South Orange, New Jersey for three years, foregoing his senior year to play hockey for Banff Hockey Academy in Banff, Alberta. As a senior, Kawam broke Banff Hockey Academy’s all-time points record, drawing interest from many Tier II Junior A Hockey Programs, as well as NCAA Division 1 Hockey Programs. In his first season playing Junior A, Kawam suffered back-to-back concussions, which sidelined him for the majority of the season. After recovering, Kawam retired from hockey to pursue a college education.

Education

Kawam attended the University of Louisville, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management.

After his sophomore year at Louisville, Kawam returned to Banff, Alberta, where he worked as an intern for the local hockey academy. While working for Banff Hockey Academy, Kawam developed a close and personal relationship with Glen Sather who resides in the small town during the NHL off-season. Kawam returned for one more summer where he would split his time between Banff Hockey Academy, Gretzky Hockey School and mentoring under Glen Sather. Having spent much time with Glen Sather, Kawam learned the inner workings of the National Hockey League and would study the Collective Bargaining Agreement in his spare time.

Gretzky Hockey School

During his junior year at the University of Louisville, Kawam got the opportunity to volunteer at the Gretzky Hockey School Camp that took place in Saint Louis, Missouri. After the camp finished and impressed with Kawam's work ethic, Ty Gretzky, President of Gretzky Hockey School and Keith Gretzky invited him to continue working for the camps for the rest of the summer.

New York Rangers

After graduating from the University of Louisville, Kawam accepted a position with the New York Rangers in their Hockey Operations Department. His day-to-day activities included updating Glen Sather and Jim Schoenfeld's offices with all NHL signings, transfers & trades, editing and [...] video on current prospects, and assisting in the preparation of the Ranger’s Prospect Camp. Additionally, Kawam worked closely with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, developing an abbreviated CBA which highlighted the most important articles and clauses.

Charney Management Group

After four months, Kawam left his position with the New York Rangers's and accepted a position with Chaney Management Group, a Sports Management Firm as the Director of Operations. During his time with Charney Management Group, Kawam began representing and advising some of the top hockey players throughout the Midwestern United States and Canada. In May 2017, Kawam parted ways with Charney Management Group, retaining all of his clients.

Orr Hockey Group

Kawam partnered up with Orr Hockey Group in early 2017, mainly in a scouting capacity. After a few months, Kawam was offered a full-time position as an agent and advisor. Kawam is regarded by many as one of the brightest young minds in hockey today. Currently based in the Chicago area, Kawam works closely with Mike Curran, Darren Orr, and Dan Marshall and is responsible for scouting, recruiting, and advising Orr Hockey’s Midwest-based clientele. Additionally, Kawam is responsible for the analytical analysis of all Orr Hockey Group’s clients.
