William Ford (business)
William Ford (July 5, 1826 – December 9, 1905) was an Irish-born American businessman. He was the father of Ford Motor Company founder Henry Ford.
Biography
William was born in County Cork, Ireland to Irish parents John and Thomasine S. Ford. William had six siblings. William attended St. Joseph's High School.
On April 19 1850, William married Mary Litogot; they later had five children. They then decided to move to Detroit, Michigan in the United States. They bought a farm and had worked on it for years.
William retired in 1879 and lived out the rest of his years in Sacramento, California. He died of natural causes on December 9, 1905 in his home, and was buried at Sacramento City Cemetery.
Marriage, Children, and Siblings
William married Belgian-American, Mary Litogot, together they had five children:
- Henry Ford (1863 – 1947), Henry was the first child of William and Mary Ford. He is the founder of the Ford Motor Company.
- Margaret Ford (1867 – 1868), Margaret was the second child of William and Mary Ford. She died one year later in 1868.
- Jane Ford (1868 – 1945), Jane was the third child of William and Mary Ford.
- William "Bill" Ford, Jr. (1871 – 1917), William, Jr. was the fourth child of William and Mary Ford.
- Robert "Bob" Ford (1873 – 1934), Robert was the fifth and last child of William and Mary Ford.
