Will Hanson

Will Hanson (b.1981) is a Singer-Songwriter based in London, England. He is known for making music with a BLEND of gothic, traditional folk, pop, horror, and alternative influences.

Early Life

Born in Paris on November 26 1981, to a journalist father and teacher mother, Will Hanson's early life was spent moving between Paris, London, Cyprus and Toulouse, before settling in London permanently as a teenager. Will Hanson went to school at Charterhouse, Surrey. He has a Masters Degree in Theology and Religious Studies from the University of Glasgow.

Early Career

Will Hanson was guitarist/songwriter in cult London band, Proxy, until they disbanded in early 2009. The band released a handful of singles on Island Records, and an official release of their album, Between Screens, is rumoured to be in the pipeline for late 2009, although copies of it have been in circulation via fans. Throughout his period with Proxy, Will worked sporadically as a solo musician, becoming a regular face on the Glasgow coffee shop scene, and playing clubs and house parties with his band The Vanity Project.

Solo Career and Post-Proxy

Since Proxy's split in early 2009, Will Hanson has been working on his first full length solo album, collaborating with old friend/producer Oli Bayston of Manchester band, Keith. Will has written extensively AbOUT the sessions on his myspace blog 1, saying that the record is heavily influenced by horror movie soundtracks, old folk music, post rock, and lo-fi ballads. Will has professed that "MusicAL saw, ebows, and lots of echo" are prevalent on the as-yet untitled record.

In March 2009, he stepped in as substitute guitarist, for Glasgow band Nacional on their US tour.

Will played the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas in March 2009, and is returning to the United States for a month long series of shows in June. Will is known to play various venues and coffee shops in and around London regularly unannounced. His live shows have received glowing reviews, and are known for their intensity and warmth.

Will plays guitar, keyboards, musical saw and glockenspiel.
