We Are Fiction (EP)

We Are Fiction is the second EP by English post hardcore band, We Are Fiction.

Background Information

In August 2008, 'We Are Fiction' were signed by record label, Rising Records, and were scheduled to release an EP under Rising, but in July 2009, the two parted company and the band elected to create an EP on their own terms, self-funded.

Recording for the EP began in late August, with 3 brand new songs being created as well as re-recording 3 older ones. When the recording process ended i the band released their first single ever, [...], on the 2 November. Accompanying the single was a music video, with the band working with Creative Junkie Media and Phil Berridge, to produce a video based on a crazy house party with the band playing. On 20 November, the band played an album launch party, headlining with support acts Visions, Giants and Lavondyss, where fans were able to purchase the EP 3 days before it was released online and digitally. On 23 November, the EP was released both physically and digitally, through outlets such as iTunes and Amazon. The record received rave reviews, as shown below.

Reception

We Are Fiction received almost unanimous positive praise from critics, with high scoring reviews in such nationwide magazines as Big Cheese and Rock Sound. Rock Sound commented: "there's a sense of upcoming greatness on the horizon" and "the quintet may still be honing their sound, but from the cataclysmic noise emanating from this record, something great may just unfold" before giving the record 7 out of 10. Elsewhere, Rock3Music.com and RockFreaks.net both gave We Are Fiction rave reviews, with R3M stating: "...doesn't describe the complexity of the multiple effects that they are attempting to produce, and which they make a good job of." and RF saying: "This is one hell of a debut EP.", "the guitars rip roar with razor sharp riffs one minute - then trading places suddenly with some sweet lead guitar licks" and "And I have every hope that these guys will carve out a spot for themselves in the hall of greats one day. This is the start of something special."
