Water 1st International
Water 1st International is a non-profit organization helping people in poor countries implement water, sanitation and hygiene education projects. Water 1st works through locally-based partner organizations to support the implementation of projects that include the provision of drinking water, hygiene education, and sanitary latrines. It is based in Seattle, Washington (USA), and in 2006 funded the construction of 36 water systems in India, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Honduras benefiting over 7,000 people. Water 1st also committed to funding an additional 129 projects serving over 30,000 people in 2007 and 2008.
In January 2007, Water 1st was named one of ParentMap Magazine's Giving Together Partners. 1
Water 1st is part of the End Water Poverty coalition. 2
There is a Water 1st Club on the campus of the University of Washington. Members of the chapter engage in educational outreach events, primarily to K–12 schools. 3
For the month of July 2007 Water 1st is the non-profit of the month at the Green Bean Coffeehouse in Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood. Tip jar donations go to Water 1st. 4
