Walter Richardson (supercentenarian)

Walter C. Richardson 1885 1998) was an American supercentenarian. He was the last known surviving man who was born in 1885. He became the world's oldest verified man on 17 July 1998, upon the death of 113-year-old Johnson Parks at the age of 112 years, 252 days, until his own death on Christmas Day, 25 December 1998, at the age of 113 years, 48 days. He was the oldest living man for 161 days and upon his death, Denzo Ishizaki of Japan became the oldest man.

Longevity records

  • On July 17, 1998, Richardson aged 112 years 252 days, became the oldest verified living man upon the death of Johnson Parks.
  • On November 7, 1998, Richardson aged 113 years, 0 days, became the 3rd man ever to reach the age of 113, preceded only by 115-year-old Christian Mortensen and the oldest man who preceded him, Johnson Parks, Frederick Frazier, and now disputed Matthew Beard, although he was surpassed by others later.
  • On December 25, 1998, Richardson died at age 113 years 48 days as the oldest undisputed man in the United States and the world, as well as the 3rd oldest verified undisputed man ever. He still ranks among the top 12 oldest verified undisputed men today.
