Walburga Hemetsberger

Walburga Hemetsberger is a lawyer and since 2019 CEO of SolarPower Europe, an association of the European solar photovoltaics sector.

In 2025 she won the Becquerel Prize for Outstanding Merits in Photovoltaics recognising her as one of the most important ambassadors for solar energy in Europe.

Life and career

Hemetsberger studied law as well as social and economic sciences at the University of Innsbruck. She worked for the Brussels office of the Austrian energy company VERBUND before taking on the role as CEO of the industry organisation SolarPower Europe in 2019.

In her role as the CEO of SolarPower Europe she has advocated for increased efforts to achieve gender parity within the organisation and in the wider renewable energy sector.
