Volo Festival

Volo is a town located in the North Tongu District in the Volta Region of Ghana. It is about 50 miles from the capital Accra. Volo is known for the TUGBEDZO- ZA FESTIVAL celebrated by the chiefs and the good people in the Volo traditional area because a bomb sent from Denmark never exploded. This festival also commemorates the end of the exodus of the people of Volo from Togo. The festival is usually celebrated in the month of April.

On August 6, 2023 Raymond Caffee was enstooled as Torgbe Volo Yingor 1st, the first Economic Development Chief In Volo. He is originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA.

Celebrations

During the festival, visitors are welcomed to share food and drinks. The people put on traditional clothes and there is durbar of chiefs. There is also dancing and drumming.

Significance

This festival is celebrated to commemorate the end of the exodus of the people of Volo from Togo who were forced to flee from the tyranny of an impious ruler.
