Visionfest

VISIONFEST: The Other Festival promotes domestic filmmaking. All of the works showcased at VISIONFEST are created by U.S. filmmakers and by production entities that are based solely in the U.S. The projects May Be shot on international locations and feature globally relevant storylines, but their origin must be rooted in the U.S. The mission here is quite simple and direct: to provide an exhibition forum for the American auteur that is specialized and focused; one that does not dilute the presence of U.S. films within a sea of international product.

There’s an interesting phenomenon that has practically always existed in the way U.S. film critics have rated foreign films. For some odd reason, foreign films have always had a tendency to be more highly regarded as cinematic art than American films, which are too often dismissed as presumptuous works vying for commercial success. But, while commercial success is a necessary outcome for a filmmaker’s plight to stay prolific, it’s also true that most of the commercially successful U.S. filmmakers that come to mind (i.e. Frank Capra, Billy Wilder, Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, and Martin Scorsese) have all put their signature on films that are gloabally regarded as “works of art.”

VISIONFEST is committed to discovering the new voices behind America’s future “works of art.” And with the support of its organizing entity, the Domani Vision Film Society, [VISIONFEST] continues its ongoing mission of ‘bringing you tomorrow’s visionaries today.’

HISTORY

Founded in 2001 by a group of film magazine publishers and film industry professionals to encourage, represent, and promote independent film production in the U.S., VISIONFEST communicates with wide audiences via educational forums, project planning initiatives, and other affiliated events organized throughout the year with the support of the Domani Vision Film Society.

Its ongoing series of creative forums and industry networking opportunities culminates each year with a five-day event of films reaching a wide consumer audience and introducing upscale urban professionals to talented independent filmmakers from all over the U.S.

Over the past six years, VISIONFEST has proven that its programming and organizational layout are the secrets to its growing success

'''Unique VISIONFEST Initiatives'''

VF07 repeats a programming formula that for the past six years has generated a crowd-pleasing showcase of fresh and innovative U.S. product and brings forth the 2007 FiveXFive New York State of Mind DV Project.

The FiveXFive New York State of Mind DV Project, which was created and launched by VISIONFEST in 2003, provides five New York-based filmmakers with the opportunity to make a five minute short and be given a “world premiere” screening at the festival. The FiveXFive series has demonstrated a powerful filmmakers’ collaborative initiative that has garnered media attention and increased consumer interest.

FKBK – For Kids By Kids is a brand new initiative offering a unique opportunity to filmmakers under 18 years of age to participate in a special showcase featuring their works. Collected from a national call for entries, selected entries will compete for a “Best of Fest” award, which will be a cash prize that the recipients may use for their next project.

A five-day NYC run in late September 2007 is the ideal time for consumers to go to the movies. It’s generally too cold for New Yorkers to head to the beach and not yet cold enough to head to the ski slopes.
