Vinod Dasari
Vinod K Dasari (born 28 June 1966) is the CEO and Managing Director of Ashok Leyland. He was the President of the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) from 2013–2015 and the President of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) from 2015–2017. He is also a member of the National Council of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Early life
Vinod Dasari was schooled in Campus School and the Kendriya Vidyalaya. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the University of Louisville’s Speed Scientific School. While studying for his undergraduate degree, Vinod worked part-time at General Electric (GE) Appliance division. After completing his degree in engineering, Vinod joined GE’s Manufacturing Management Program and worked in GE’s Lighting division and GE’s Aerospace Division.
After finishing his undergraduate program, Vinod joined the dual degree program at Northwestern University; Masters in Management and Manufacturing (MMM). This Program provided a Master’s degree in Engineering Management from McCormick School of Engineering; and an MBA from Kellogg School of Management, both from Northwestern University.
Career
In 1992, Vinod started his career with the Timken Company, in Canton, Ohio. In 1996, he moved to Timken’s Indian operations as Director of Manufacturing and Technology. In 1998, he was appointed Managing Director of Timken India Limited. In 2000, he moved back to US, with Timken, as President of the Global Railroad business. In 2002, he joined Cummins India Limited, in Pune, as President and Whole-time Director and later became the Joint Managing Director.
In 2005, Vinod joined Ashok Leyland Limited as Chief Operating Officer. He was appointed as a Whole-time Director in 2008, which was followed by his current position of Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director in 2011.
Personal Life
Vinod is married to Sarita and has two children. He loves cricket, movies, and golf.
