Victorian Owned Horses

Al Tharb was an honest grinding horse trained by Echuca-based trainer Michael Cornish. Al Tharb won in town and he raced to his peak in The Spring/summer of 2005/06. He won the Robert Taranto Hcp at Sandown and at a VRC meeting at Werribee. The 6yo gelding was bred by Grand Lodge- Pontal Lass. The 6yo has never quite lived up to his $625,000 price tag but he has been a great horse for his owners. Al Tharb's main jockey was Stephen BasterHe is recoupperating from an injury at the moment. Die Trying

Die Trying was another good country mare who was last trained by John Stocker. She was formerly trained by Michael Cornish and she ran best for him. Perhaps her best result was a close 2nd at a mid-weeker at Sandown or her win over a good country field at Mildura over Al Tharb & co. After running 9th at Morphettville she had a long spell and she got transferred to John Stocker, for which she didn't run well for. She was bred by Gold Ace- Newtown Beach. She is a 6yo. Regimental Lord

Regimental Lord was a grand- old performer who won in town multiple times. He was trained by R Urmston. That was Urmston's only horse and what a horse it was. It was a top- class country cups horse who won at Moonee Valley, Caulfield, Sandown, Cranbourne & Geelong. He was also placed at Flemington. He raced at his best when he won two consecutive races in town in 1992. He also ran a close 4th in the listed Heatherlie Handicap at Caulfield. He was bred by Skiendhu- Telamour. He was owned by Mr I Spillard, Mr R Urmston, Mr R Shaw & his wife. This gelding's mother died at birth and he had to be bottle-fed. Career Records: 69- 11- 5- 4 $112,860

General Bayton

General Bayton was raced by several trainers but he raced to his best for Donna Gaskin. General Bayton was a B-Grade sprinter at best who's best runs were a decisive win in the $100,000 Aurie's Star Hcp at Flemington, a close 5th to Alinghi in The g1 Newmarket Handicap, a good 2nd to Bomber Bill in G3 class or his over numerous placings in black-type races. His form tapered off after his Newmarket campaign and the 6yo gelding is now racing for Dale Sutton. This gelding was bred by General Nediym- Imperial Chariot. Career Records: 21- 5- 4- 2 $229,975

Bakula

Bakula was a good- grey who raced at her best for Michael Cornish. She started her career with a good but narrow win at Moonee Valley. At her next start she was 1/2 len 3rd at Caulfield behind Trick or Treating. Her next start was the listed Kevin Hayes Stakes. She found the class too hot in that race and the winner was VRC Oaks hero Hollow Bullet. Then she went back in class and was fifth, two lengths behind Kammoora at Flemington. She got transferred to Danny O'Brien and ran a couple of good races for him including 4th at Flemington on Oaks day behind her rival Kammoora. This 5yo mare was bred by Lion Hunter- Lilliane.
