Victoria "Torrey" Newcomb
Victoria "Torrey" Newcomb (b. January 16, 1974) is an American novelist.
Academic life
Victoria graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon School in 1990. She spent one year at Connecticut College. Later, she earned her Associate of Applied Science degree from Monroe Community College of Rochester, NY. She continued her education in Seattle at the University of Washington, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics in 2001. She earned a Masters in Education from Seattle University in 2006.
Professional life
Victoria is the author of Gathering Grace, her first novel. She has written poetry, short stories, white papers, and process instructions, not all of which are in the public domain.
From 1999â2008, Victoria was a science teacher at Seattle Preparatory School. Although she started as the department's teaching assistant, she began teaching full time when another teacher quit mid-year. She taught physical science and chemistry to 9th and 11th grade students, respectively. Though she is no longer a member of the Seattle Prep staff, her gall bladder is now displayed in the Science Department. The school let her go for referring to her freshman students as "little fuckers."
Victoria has worked a variety of other jobs, including historical interpreter, home health aide, front desk and auditor at hotels, and sales associate.
Personal life
Victoria is unmarried and has never borne children, though has had a parental relationship with several. She has been a foster parent in Washington State. She lives with her partner and his daughter in Seattle.
