Verny Capital

Verny Capital Group of Companies is a company operating in the sector of “private equity” in Kazakhstan. The headquarters is in Astana city (until August 2012, the headquarters was in Almaty). Group focuses on the management of investment projects in mineral resource industry, telecommunications, financial services, mass media, infrastructure and franchising projects, and also real estate in countries of Central Asia, CIS and European Union. The total volume of investments managed by the group is about $4 billion US dollars.

History

Verny Capital investment company was founded in October 2006. The title of the company is associated with previous name of Almaty city - Verny , where the Company was founded. The Company manages funds of several shareholders – private individuals who invested their funds into several share funds. The investment company, funds and assets where funds of shareholders are invested, form Verny Capital Group of Companies.
In its history, the Company has several successful exits from investment projects.
In October 2012 – February 2013, Verny Capital sold almost 48 percent in Kazzinc LLP for $2 bln USD plus shares of Glencore.
Investment multiple here was almost 6, and IRR - 58%. This exit was preceded by a successful story of Vasilkovskiy gold field development (now – Altyntau Resources JSC) with subsequent exchange of its shares to shares of Kazzinc. IRR in Altyntau project was 800% .

Owners and management

Verny Capital investment company was founded by three partners – Timur Isatayev , Yerlan Ospanov and Garik Mikayelyan. They also act as the management of Verny Capital Group of Companies: Timur Isatayev was the Chairman of the Board of Directors until October 8, 2013 , Yerlan Ospanov - Director General, Garik Mikayelyan – Deputy General Director in charge of regulatory and legal function. The fourth managing partner and Deputy General Director is Fyodor Popandopulo, who is in charge of finance.
One of the major limited partners of the funds managed by Verny Capital is Bulat Utemuratov. He is not the owner of Verny Capital.

The total volume of investments managed by Verny Capital Inveestment company is $4 bln USD. Verny Capital Group develops investment projects in mineral resource industry, telecommunications, financial services, mass media, infrastructure projects and real estate:

Hotel business

• The Ritz-Carlton Moscow, (in partnership with The Ritz-Carlton);
• The Ritz-Carlton Vienna, (in partnership with The Ritz-Carlton);
• Ritz-Carlton Astana, (in partnership with The Ritz-Carlton) – construction commencement stage;
• Rixos Lake Borovoe, Kazakhstan (in partnership with Rixos hotel network);
• Hyatt, Minsk, Belarus (in partnership with Hyatt) – initial stage.

Use of subsoil resources

• Oil producing company Preobrazhenskneft CJSC, Orenburg oblast, Russia;
• Gold-mining company Orion Minerals, developing Raygorodok and Komarovskoye fields, Kazakhstan (in partnership with Kazzinc LLP).

Construction and real estate

• South-Kyrgyz Cement plant, Osh, Kyrgyzstan (in partnership with Italcementi Group);
• A and B class business-centers in Almaty, Astana and Kokshetau, Kazakhstan;
• Multifunctional complex Talan Towers including “green” business-center of “A+” class and The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Astana – at the stage of construction.

Security

• G4S Kazakhstan (in partnership with G4S).

Media business

• 31 Channel TV company (in partnership with CTC Media).

Franchising

• Network of fastfood restaurants Burger King in Kazakhstan.

Telecommunications

• Verny Capital participates in the management of Beeline Kazakhstan Group (in partnership with VimpelCom Ltd.);
• SkyMobile LLC with trademark Beeline Kazakhstan (in partnership with VimpelCom Ltd.).
