Verari FOREST Container
Verari FOREST Container is a portable data center built in a standard intermodal container from Verari Systems. The FOREST (Flexible, Open, Reliable, Energy efficient, Scalable and Transportable) Container solution is Verari's version of a "Data Center in a Box". FOREST houses up to 2,880 servers and 13 petabytes of storage to any location in various environments. Verari Systems states that "the FOREST Container can reduce total energy costs by improving data center efficiency by up to 110%."
History
Verari Systems launched the FOREST Container on March 4th, 2008 with a 1,400 blade-based compute servers or almost 12 petabyte storage container solution utilizing Verari's BladeRack 2 X-Series platforms. Verari's patented Vertical Cooling Technology cools the rack platforms within the shipping container by a refrigerant-based heat exchange using an external chiller.
In October 2007, Google received a patent for "Data Center in the Box", described as modular data centers on shipping containers.
Customers and Partners
According to Data Center Knowledge, Microsoft is currently using at least one of Verari's FOREST containers in Boulder, Colorado.
On April 28, 2009, Verari Systems added CRG West data center environments to the infrastructure of the FOREST Container. Verari Systems offers CRG West's amenities for 24-hour remote hands and security, redundant emergency generator power, an on-line customer portal for real-time power usage and usage-based power pricing for IT managers for the FOREST facility.
