With over 15 years of combined experience in the retail and frame design industry, a small pro-shop in California began making semi-custom, steel 29er frames in an effort to provide a 29er that performed better than the bikes available on the shop floor. The frames were sold direct through local bike shops. Limited quantity and distribution abilities could not keep up with demand for the unique handling approach to 29er geometry.

In the first of several large leaps forward, the company raised enough capitol to spin off on its own, with a new name, new product and new staff. In 2004, the previous company was dissolved and Vassago Cycles was born.

Redefining its now well known "WetCat Geometry" created a new demand for product availability. In 2005 the Vassago Cycles repositioned its business model from domestic manufacture, and began out sourcing manufacturing to Taiwan and distributing products via a standard dealer network.

Currently Vassago Cycles provides steel 29er frames to U.S. dealers as well as distribution availability to Europe and Australia.
