Valley Unified Education Service Center
The Valley Unified Education Service Center (VUESC) is a public educational collaborative in northern Aroostook County, Maine. Established in 2018, the center serves as an administrative and resource-sharing hub for three school administrative units (SAUs) in the upper Saint John Valley: the Madawaska School Department, MSAD 27, and MSAD 33.

The VUESC was formed to streamline administrative costs by sharing a single superintendent and central office staff among three geographically linked districts.

Athletics
Athletics in the Valley Unified region are a central pillar of community life, characterized by long-standing local rivalries and recent regional success. While the districts maintain separate teams for most sports, they collaborate on programs such as the Valley Mustangs football team to ensure student participation levels remain viable.
2026 State Championship
On February 28, 2026, the Fort Kent Warriors boys basketball team (MSAD 27) achieved a historic milestone by winning the school's first-ever Class C State Championship. The Warriors defeated Maranacook 70â63 at the Augusta Civic Center. The victory was led by junior Aden Jeffers, who scored 27 points, following his game-winning buzzer-beater in the regional final against top-seeded Caribou. The win prompted a massive community celebration, with a motorcade of emergency vehicles escorting the team back into Fort Kent.
School safety
2026 Fort Kent security incident On February 24, 2026, a bomb threat was reported at Fort Kent Community High School after a handwritten note was discovered in a school bathroom. The incident prompted the immediate evacuation of both the high school and the co-located Valley Rivers Middle School. Students were dismissed for the day while the Aroostook County Sheriff's Department and local police cleared the buildings.
On March 4, 2026, Fort Kent Police announced that a 15-year-old student had been arrested and charged with terrorising and making a false public report in connection with the hoax. The incident led to a regional review of school safety protocols within the Valley Unified framework.
St. John Valley Technology Center
Located in Frenchville, the SJVTC provides vocational training in fields such as welding, nursing (CNA), and automotive tech. In 2026, welding students completed the "Acadian Star" sculpture using steel from the historic Madawaska International Bridge.
