USSS Electronic Countermeasures Suburban
USSS Electronic Countermeasures Suburban is an element of a United States presidential motorcade is the United States Secret Service Electronic Counter Measures Chevrolet Suburban.
This vehicle usually trails the presidential limo and is used to counter electronically guided attacks, such as IED's. Its most identifying mark are two collinear antennas mounted on the roof that are solely used in barrage jamming applications, The Primary method used to counter IED threats. The antennae configuration can be changed according to threat level, for instance taller antennas are used to increase the jamming protection distance. The vehicles were modified by Advanced Counter Measure Systems, Inc, a division of Sierra Nevada Corporation.
The secondary distinguishing mark are two small domes between the collinear jamming antennas. Their purpose is pure speculation but there are a number of possibilities:
- Sensors for Sierra Nevada's ShadowBolt IV jammer, which actually alerts operators to the possible presence of an IED threat.
- Turret mounted Directional Infrared Countermeasure to counter an IR missile attack.
- Turret mounted cameras for the Tigerwall system. This system is used to detect and classify airborne threats.
- Millimeter Wave Radar Antennae for Sierra Nevadas's Remote Frisk system. This is a vehicle mounted system that can detect and automatically warn the operator of an object, metallic, or non metallic, that is hidden on a person's body that fits an object threat signature such as a gun or other weapon.
