Ursu Timotei

Timotei Ursu (born 1939) is a Romanian film director, television director, writer and journalist.

He was born on January 22, 1939 in Timişoara. In 1962 he graduated from Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj, Romania. He took a degree in History and Philology. In 1969 he graduated from the IATC, University of Film and Drama in Bucharest.

Ursu was particularly active at Televiziunea Română (Romanian Television) between 1965 and 1985. There he directed documentary films.

He was the director of the feature films Decolarea (Take Out) 1971, Septembrie (September), 1978 and Al Patrulea Stol (The Fourth Flock), 1979, the co-writer of feature film Decolarea and the writer of Septembrie, Al Patrulea stol, Cursa (1975, directed by Mircea Daneliuc) and Buna seara, Irina (1981, directed by Tudor Marascu).

From 1986 Ursu lived in New York City. He was mainly active in journalism. He was a contributor to the weekly Romanian newspapers; Lumea Liberǎ Româneascǎ, Lumea Noastrǎ, and New York Magazin.

He was the co-founder and writer of Foaie magazine and was correspondent for the British Broadcasting Corporation from 2000 until 2004. He was editor-in-chief of Lumea Liberǎ Româneascǎ from 2001 to 2004.

Timotei Ursu is the main adviser of the (New York) Dacia Revival Society Inc. He is a member of Romanian Academy of Science, a scholar in Old Romanian History and a contributor of to the magazines: Dacia Magaz Origini and Conexiuni. Since 1998 he has been a member of the Romanian Writers Union.
