Urban Football League
AbOUT the League
The Urban Football League was started in 1991 with five teams from the Tokyo football league and 7 other teams from the Ground Heights League and the KCFL. The initial season had two divisions of six teams each with the championship culminating in a battle between the Ichikawa Battlehawks and the Harajuku Indians (1977-1997) at the Katsushika Track and Field Stadium. The Battlehawks won the Inagural Urban Bowl by a score of 35-14 on a cold cristmas eve that year.
The following year, the league expanded to 16 teams and played with 4 blocks of 4 teams each. This would remain the number of teams until the Harajuku Indians folded in 1997. Faced with dwindling participation, the league has continued to have teams fold since that time with 9 teams taking part in 2006 and 2007. Teams rosters continue to dwindle however and how long the league will last is not known at this point.
