Production and development

In 2008, after becoming very stressful and agitated, A.B. Quintanilla III was planning on quitting music and quitting the Kumbia All Starz, the processor of Kumbia Kings. His father and manager, Abraham Quintanilla Jr, told A.B., that he didn't want him to quit music, stating that his dream was for his children to continue in the music industry and never give up. While on tour for the Kumbia All Starz album, "Planeta Kumbia" (2008) in Boliva, A.B. had a lift his mood, after his music had began to chart in that country and was accepted by the people, which helped A.B. change his mind about quitting music. Within time, he and his father began coming up with plans on releasing an album that features Selena, his sister who was murdered in 1995, with new sounds. They then came up with a plan to take vocals out of Selena's five previously unreleased songs that she had recorded, before signing a contract with Captiol/EMI, and combining them into newly-recorded songs to create a full-length studio album, as if Selena was still alive. When they were finished, they had created several more songs then they anticipated. Before hand, they announced their upcoming project through Spanish media, stating that they are choosing ten songs for the album, set to be released sometime in the fall of 2011 or early 2012. When asked if the album might be released in March 2012, marking the seventeenth anniversary of Selena's death, Abraham Quintanilla Jr stated that it can be possible.
