Untitled Live (Neil Young album)
Untitled Live is the name used to refer to a proposed 1971 live album by Neil Young.
Compiled from a series of 1970 live shows, the album initially intended to serve as a release for Young while he was recuperating from a debilitating slipped disk injury that left him incapacitated for most of 1971. Its March 1971 release came and went, with Young ultimately following up September 1970's After the Gold Rush with February 1972's Harvest.
"Old Man", "The Needle and the Damage Done" and "Bad Fog of Loneliness" were considered for release on Harvest, though the third was ultimately rejected. "See the Sky AbOUT to Rain" was resurrected for On The Beach and "Wonderin'" for Everybody's Rockin'. "Dance, Dance, Dance" was given to Crazy Horse for their eponymous debut.
Though it's unclear from which concerts the album was to have been compiled, Young has long expressed the desire to release recordings from the early 1970 tour with Crazy Horse. In 2006, the release of Live at the Fillmore East was announced. The album includes six performances, all featuring Crazy Horse, taken from March 1970. Those concerts were some of the intended sources for Untitled Live. The album is apparently the first in the long awaited Archives series, which will likely incorporate other live material from this time period.
