United States presidential candidate girls, 2008
During the United States presidential election of 2008, various videos were released onto the internet which featured young women 'endorsing' candidates. Most of these videos were released onto YouTube and have been viewed by millions of people.
Candidate Girls
Obama Girl
Obama Girl portrayed by Amber Lee Ettinger is the most well-known candidate girl on the internet. Her debut video, I Got a Crush... on Obama has seen over sixteen million views and has been rated as one of YouTube's greatest hits. It was released in October 2007 and soon sparked off a series of 'Candidate Girl' videos. She gained super powers from her Obama tchotchke to become 'Super Obama Girl'.
Obama Girl has released the most videos which have all been released by Barely Political, an entertainment website.
McCain Girl
Created by Barely Political and portrayed by Kate Secor, McCain Girl appears in quite a few viral videos, notably the 'Obama Girl vs McCain Girl Olympics' series. She is able to transform herself into 'The INCredible McCain Girl' (à la The Incredible Hulk) when she is angry: notably when people - especially Democrats - attack Senator McCain.
Giuliani Girl
Giuliani Girl debuted in Barely Political's Debate '08: Obama Girl vs. Giuliani Girl and is portrayed by model, Adelina Kristina. In 'The Incredible McCain Girl', she is seen talking to and helping McCain Girl.
Hillary Girl
Hillary Girl, portrayed by Taryn Southern, released her first video, Hott4Hill as an answer video to Obama Girl's I Got a Crush... on Obama. Southern, acting as a schoolteacher, sings her love song to a class of young children and dances in a [...] manner. Although Hillary Girl comes across as a lesbian, Southern confirmed that she herself was straight.
Ron Paul Girl
The Ron Paul Girl is portrayed by Mona Gillen and her videos were released by Liv Films. Her first video ‘Ron Paul Girl’ was released onto MetaCafe.
Romney Girls
Portrayed by the Barbadoro Triplets (Cynthia, Caroline and Christine), the Romney Girls released only one video. The video, 'Romney Girl Attack Ad', attacks Obama Girl by describing her fiscal policies as disastrous, a flip-flopper and as untrustworthy.
Kucinich Girl
Kucinich Girl is portrayed by Hyla Matthews. Her video, 'I Wanna...' starts with a television advert by Dennis Kucinich, who is campaigning against the War in Iraq.
Huckabee Girl
Portrayed by Vai Au-Harehoe, Huckabee Girl released her only video, 'Huckabee Girl'. Her video mentions Mike Huckabee's position on the issues.
