Unhappy Happiness (, transliterated: Dzhbakht Erjankutyun, ) is an Armenian five times per week primetime comedy-drama soap opera, first broadcast in Armenia on Armenia TV on September 17, 2007 until now (2009). The show follows the lives and relationships of people living in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan. The series was produced by David Babakhanyan, directed by Jirayr Khalifyan and based on a screenplay by Artak Arzumanyan. The first twelve episodes were released on DVD.

Development

Unhappy Happines was created in 2007 targeting a wide range audience. It is the first non-comedy soap opera in Armenia and first television series produced by Armenia TV , although it has many comedial scenes. Armenia TV described the series as "Passion and self-devotion, love and betrayal, wealth and loss. Real feelings and real life. Life, where happiness and misfortune walk alongside". It was planned to make 180 episodes, but AbOUT 240 episodes have been created.

Casts

Characters in the show include Anna Margaryan (played by Luiza Hambaryan), Arthur (Varsham Gevorgyan), Gegham (Suren Tumasyan), Marina (Ani Petrosyan), Hayk (Richard Madlenyan), Albert Poghosyan (Arman Ghazaryan) and Mushegh Marukhyan (Shahen Voskanyan). The exit of many characters opened the doors to the introduction of new ones. Mushegh Marukhyan, a prison chief, is one of the most popular character in show.

Plot

The story begins by flashback to year 2000, Moscow, Russia, where the main character Anna Margaryan gived birth to her son, Grigor. Back in the present, Anna makes a presentation in the office of her tourism agency. In later series flashbacks are shown regarding what happened to her son. When Anna's husband Gegham was arrested on thier wedding day, Anna falls into a depression and went to Moscow. She has a relationship with her boss and there becomes pregnant. Just after the birth of her son she recives notice of her father's death in Yerevan, and Anna returned to Yerevan, Armenia for her father's funeral. When she gos back to Moscow after a few days, she finds her son has disappeared. At present, Anna takes credit from HayQaghShin Bank and from Vardan, who is one of richest people in the city. After that, a lot of characters, including Marina (another tourism agency manager), Arthur (vice-president of Anna's office), Saqo (HayQaghShin Bank worker), ex-husband Gegham with his roommate from prison Vagho and others try to stеal this money, and after doing it they begin steal it from each - other. Also there are many scenes about prison, criminal world and beauty salon. During this Anna tries to find her son.

Shutting down and Second season

Final episode aired on January 16, 2009. Anna finally find her son and reunite with her fiance Hayk, who had broken his backbone when saving Anna's son from killers. Major negative characters was arrested. After the final episode, the director announced that Armenia TV would pick up Unhappy Happiness for the second season.

Soundtrack

The main soundtrack used in show is "Barev Erjankutyun" ("Hello, Happiness") performed by Hayko. The music video released on Armenia TV during one of the episodes in December, 2008.
