UD Janela

União Desportivo da Janela (Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: Union Disportibo da Janela Santo Antão Crioulo: Unyão Dsportib' da Janela (or Jnela)) is a football club that had played in the Premier division and plays in the Santo Antão Island League North Zone in Cape Verde. It is based in the village of Janela, in theeastern part of the island of Santo Antão near the island's easternmost point .

History

The date of the foundation of the club is not understood.

Janela participated in the Santo Antão Island League for the first time in the 2011-12 season after it became a registered club. The club finished in the last three positions and was relegated into the newly formed Second Division for the next two seasons. Janela was one of three clubs that took part in the regional Second Division in 2013.

Janela spent in the Second Division for a season and became the first placed club of that division out of the three they competed. Janela returned into the Premier Division for the next three seasons.

In the 2014 season, Janela had the lead in the first week after defeating Rosariense 3-2 and had the most goals scored that round, Janela had a scoreless draw with Os Foguetões in the second round and Paulense later took the lead. Janela had a four match losing streak and their position dropped to fifth, then fourth d Janela's last win of the season came in the seventh round and became third, at the final round, lost a position and finished fourth. The last two seasons had their positions waned but had the same two wins, Janela lost the first four matches before they got one of two wins for the club on February 28, Janela got their last win in the Premier Division to date where they defeated Solpontense 2-0 on March 19. In total, Janela had 8 points in 2016. The final season they spent was awful for the club, but Janela only got four draws out of ten matches. Their first three matches had a goal draw, at the seventh round, their last draw also a goal each was made with Beira Mar, one of two with that club. Janela finished last place and was relegated. Janela will spend the following season in the Second Division

Stadium

Estádio João Serra is a multi-use stadium in of Ponta do Sol, Cape Verde. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 2,000. The stadium has seat rows in the south side and is located south of the town center. Every club of the Santo Antão Premier and Second Division including Janela plays at the stadium along with Rosariense, Paulense, Beira Mar and Os Foguetões. Also the stadium is home to Solpontense.

As Janela together with the east of the municipality has no football field, their main home stadium is Campo de Coqueiral, located in the city center just west of the Atlantic which has no seats, it sits with the main road (Estrada de Vale de Paul) connecting Ribeira Grande and Porto Novo (EN1-SA01) via Janela, though primarily trains at that field.
