Tyvokka

Tyvokka is a fictional character in the Star Wars Expanded Universe.

Tyvokka was a Wookiee Jedi Master of legendary status who sat on the Jedi Council during the Stark Hyperspace War.

Biography

Tyvokka was a rare Wookiee Jedi, and even rarer, a Wookiee Jedi Master who was one of the most respected members of the Council. Tyvokka carried with him an orange curved lightsaber, which suggests he may have used Form II, Makashi. He possessed advanced precognition skills and was a patient master to even his most frustrating Padawan, Plo Koon. The pair remained friends and partners after Plo Koon’s ascent to the rank of Jedi Knight, and Tyvokka continued to encourage his former apprentice to seek membership on the Jedi Counci.

As the Senators of the Republic discussed the conflict, Chancellor Finis Valorum proposed that a meeting take place between the Stark Commercial Combine and a combination of Jedi, Republic, and Trade Federation representatives. Tyvokka was asked by the Republic to be chief negotiator. Tyvokka gladly accepted the position and asked Koon to be his aide in the matter.

In a meeting with Valorum and other Jedi Masters, Tyvokka spoke his uncertainty of the bacta shortage, and suggested that Jedi Master Tholme and his Padawan Quinlan Vos travel to Thyferra, the planet on which an apparent disaster was the catalyst for the shortage, to discover the truth.

As the head of the Jedi team dispatched to Troiken, Tyvokka displayed his ability as a negotiator by holding together the representatives of the Stark Commercial Combine, the Trade Federation, and the Galactic Republic.

In an attempted political power grab, Stark tried to kill the Federation and Republic representatives, and Tyvokka was fatally injured after being shot by friendly battle droids. This happened because Gunray told the droids to kill everything accidentally and their first target was Tyvokka. After Qui-Gon saw this, he slashed down the droids to make them stop shooting. Unfortunately, it was too late for Tyvokka.

With his dying words, Tyvokka issued orders to Plo Koon to distribute to the remaining Jedi: Adi Gallia was to protect Senator Valorum, Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi were to disable the computer virus that Stark infected the Republic fleet with, and Plo Koon was to rally the Republic forces to quelch the conflict before the Senate lost its nerve. Finally, Tyvokka expressed his pride in his former apprentice, as well as his wish that Koon take his seat on the Council, and became one with the Force.

Plo Koon followed through with his former Master’s wishes, and rallied the troops to victory ending both the Fifth Battle of Qotile and the Stark Hyperspace Wars. Tyvokka’s empty seat on the Jedi Council was then filled by Plo Koon.

Apprentices

Tyvokka, in his lifetime as a Jedi Knight, had many Padawan learners. The most notable was Plo Koon, who would eventually go on to serve on the Jedi Council himself, following in his Master's footsteps. When an opening became available on the Council, Tyvokka expressed his wishes that Koon pursue the opportunity and apply to be accepted onto it. However, Koon was always humble and felt there were many others more qualified than he was to serve on the Council, notably Qui-Gon Jinn.
