TV Guide's List of the 50 Worst TV Shows of All Time

The 50 Worst TV Shows of All Time is a list compiled by TV Guide for the cover story for the week of July 20, 2002. It is composed mainly of several short-lived television programs. However, many have been skeptical of the addition of "guilty pleasure" shows such as Baywatch and perhaps the most controversial decision was placing Hogan's Heroes on the list (which enjoyed a six-year run in the late 60s and early 70s), which many believe did not deserve its ranking or to even be on the list at all considering it was a successful series. However, Steven Reddicliffe, TV Guide's editor-in-chief, predicting the criticism, told the Associated Press that "awful television shows are a storied part of our society" and "some of" the shows on the list are "very successful and are guilty pleasures." The list appeared in TV Guide merely two months following its much publicized list of the 50 greatest shows, making it one of various special issues celebrating the magazine's 50th year (the series began in early 2001 with TV Guide's 50 Greatest Game Shows of All Time).
