TutorGroup is an education technology company that has developed a platform to provide services for learners online. The TutorGroup platform allows instructors to present students with personalized content. TutorGroup's online classrooms comprise the largest English-learning language institution in the world.

The company was founded in 2004 by brothers Dr. Ming Yang and Dr. Eric Yang, and has grown to include offices in Shanghai, Taipei, and Silicon Valley. In its first round of funding, in 2012, TutorGroup raised $15 million in investment capital from QiMing Venture Partners and CyberAgent. In February 2014 TutorGroup announced a $100 million round of funding led by Alibaba Group alongside, SBI Group, Temasek Holdings and returning investors.

Description

TutorGroup is an adaptive learning technology provider that makes it possible for instructors to customize learning programs online. The model launched as a traditional, offline, face-to-face English teaching course. But as a result of the SARS crisis it evolved to provide online teaching services and then focused completely on online products.

According to its website, the company has become the largest English language learning institute in the world, employing more than 2000 instructors to educate students across 5 million classroom sessions. Former NBA All-Star Yao Ming is a spokesperson for the company.
