Turtle Trench
Turtle Trench is a strategy game for the iOS Platform (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad) based on the Lemmings sub-genre of strategy games. It features side-scrolling levels with various obstacles standing in the way of the Turtles and their home. The user must issue commands to the turtles, such as Digging, Blocking, and Jumping to help them on their way.
Gameplay
Although the game loosely follows the basic rules of Lemmings/Pingus. There are a few innovations, some which are immediately apparent (such as the 3 Stars on each level), and others that are more apparent as you ProgresS further into the game (new actions, and features). Unlike many other straight ports to the iOS platform, with Turtle Trench, the User Interface (UI) and ergonomics has been carefully designed to cater to the specific requirements of an iPhone/iPod Touch user (such as the ability to quickly and smoothly zoom/scroll, along with an easy means to select turtles without making mistakes).
Actions
The currently known available actions in the initial iOS Release are:
- Dig across (CREATES a passageway through terrain)
- Dig diagonally
- Dig down
- Blocker (stops other turtles from passing)
- Umbrella (allows turtles to fall from a great height without dying)
- Bomber
- Jumper
- Reverse Gravity
Features
The game introduces switches, special blocks, and unlike other Lemmings games, this time water is very integral to some of the more complex levels, and doesn't kill the aquatic turtles.
The 3 star achievement system, which has almost become synonymous with iPhone games, means that users will return to levels they've already completed, trying to figure out ways of getting all the stars. Thus adding increased value to each level.
Levels
The game, at the time of release had 40 levels, spanning over three worlds (The Caves, Sky Scape, and Snow Stroll), with a total of 120 stars to achieve.
