Tuanku Najihah bte AlMarhum Tunku Besar Burhanuddin

D.Y.M.M. TUANKU NAJIHAH BTE ALMARHUM TUNKU BESAR BURHANUDDIN

Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tuanku Ampuan Najihah binti Almarhum Tunku Besar Burhanuddin was born in Seri Menanti. She received her early education at Sekolah Melayu Seri Menanti. She continued her education at Sekolah Inggeris Tuanku Muhammad. She had to end her studies in 1941, however, due to the Japanese invasion. She continued her studies by receiving private tuition at the palace.

On 8 August 1943, DYMM Tuanku Ampuan married DYMM Almarhum Tuanku Ja’far ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman. They were blessed with a number of princes and princesses. When DYMM Tuanku Ja’afar went to England in 1950 to further his studies, DYMM Tuanku Ampuan took the opportunity to learn French and to take a few short courses at the London School of Economics.

From 1957 to 1967, DYMM Tuanku Ampuan Negeri Sembilan spent much of her time abroad, where Almarhum DYMM Tuanku Ja’afar was serving as a diplomat. When she was in London, she represented Malaysia's NCWO.

DYMM Tuanku Ampuan also joined UMNO. She was elected Vice President of Wanita UMNO at the Rembau and Tampin branch in Negeri Sembilan and at the Ipoh branch in Perak. She is also the Vice President of Lembaga Kebajikan Islam Malaysia. She is the Patron of several societies and women associations, such as the Perkumpulan Wanita Negeri Sembilan, Lembaga Kebajikan Perempuan Islam Negeri Sembilan, Pandu Puteri Negeri Sembilan, Ladies Football, Ladies Hockey Malaysia, Golf Wanita (MALGA) as well as her own badminton team. She is very keen on sports, especially golf, badminton and tennis. DYMM Tuanku Ampuan is also very active and contributes much in charity work in Negeri Sembilan.

In 1978 she was awarded ‘Darjah Kerabat Yang Amat Dihormati’ (DKNS) by DYMM Tuanku Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan. Other awards bestowed on her include DNN, DK (Kedah), DK (Kelantan), SPTJ and SPMK.
