Triphammer Cooperative

Triphammer Cooperative is a housing cooperative at Cornell University, located on Cornell North Campus. The cooperative house has room for up to nineteen residents at one time, and is home to both undergraduates and graduate students at Cornell.

History

The Triphammer house was originally the home of the Sigma Kappa sorority in the early 1900s. In the 1950s the sorority chapter living in house allowed a black woman to join, violating the Sigma Kappa rules. Rather than forcing their new member to leave, the girls decided to disband from the sorority, and formed the Triphammer Woman’s Cooperative. In the 1990s, the cooperative allowed male students to join and became coeducational.

Meals

All meals at Triphammer Cooperative are vegetarian, even though not all members of the cooperative are strictly vegetarian. Residents participate in the house meal plan, and help prepare meals for the other residents of the cooperative.
