Tractidigestivibacter

Tractidigestivibacter is a genus of Gram-positive, strictly anaerobic, non-motile, and non-spore-forming bacteria in the family Atopobiaceae. Members of the genus have been isolated from pig and human feces. The only species with a validly published name is Tractidigestivibacter scatoligenes.

Taxonomy

The genus was established in 2021 during a phylogenomic reclassification of species previously assigned to the genus Olsenella. Its type species, Tractidigestivibacter scatoligenes, was originally described as Olsenella scatoligenes in 2015 after isolation from pig feces inDenmark. It was transferred to Tractidigestivibacter in 2021.

The name Tractidigestivibacter is derived from Latin words referring to the digestive tract and a rod-shaped bacterium, giving the meaning "a rod from the digestive tract".

Characteristics

Members of the genus are Gram-positive, saccharolytic, strictly anaerobic rods or coccobacilli. They are non-motile and do not form spores.

Species

The genus contains one species with a validly published name and one additionally described species whose name has not been validly published:

  • "Tractidigestivibacter montrealensis" Benlaïfaoui et al. 2023 – not validly published
