Tony Rotherham

Tony Rotherham is an English Historian, Living History re-enactor, actor, teacher, fight choreographer, stuntman, weapon expert, Robin Hood expert and Nottingham's official Robin Hood. He has been doing this kind of work for many years ever since he left university with an Ma Ba PhD in History, Drama and Art. He then went to Holland where he trained at the Andrew Van Der Hauser Academy of Sword and learned a very high degree of combat. He worked in film and television as a fight choreographer and actor for many years. Tony has been studying the history of Robin Hood ever since he was 18 years old, not just the ballads but the history behind the ballads, and has been doing lectures on the subject for over 20 years to much acclaim. Along with this he has set up several very successful and award winning historical re-creation societies; Spirit of England, The Company of the White Boar, Sea Thieves Pirate Association and Stand and Deliver The English Highwayman's Association.

Spirit of England

This group concentrates on the Robin Hood and King Arthur legends and performs shows all over europe. Tony Rotherham has been studying the history of Robin Hood since he was eighteen years old, not just the ballads but the historical figure behind the ballads. He has been doing lectures on this subject for about twenty years and could be called an expert in this field. He also works as the official Robin Hood of Nottingham at The Tales of Robin Hood where he among other things gives lectures and participates in banquets. In 2008 the BBC did a piece on him as Robin Hood.

Seathieves Pirate Association

This is a group of like minded individuals with a passion for the Golden Age of Piracy. Sorry no Jack Sparrow wannabe`s allowed in this crew. They teach people all about real Pirates.

Tony Rotherham is Captain Jack Vincent, a man heavily into piracy and highway robbery (Springheels Jack).

Stand and Deliver

Tony as Sam Gregory The society of English highwaymen. This group is not large, in fact at full strength they only number six people. But each one of these characters knows about the life and times of some of Englands most notorious highwaymen from Sam Gregory of the Essex gang to Dick Turpin. Tony is Sam Gregory, notorious highwayman who teamed up with the famous highwayman Dick Turpin. He has even acted out this role in the Channel 5 documentary 'The Real Dick Turpin'.

This group is there for entertainment and educational purposes.

The Company of the White Boar

This group is a living history group looking at the life and times of a fifteenth century household led by the notorious Black Knight of Ashton; Sir Ralph Assherton.

Living history is an activity that incorporates historical tools, activities and dress into an interactive presentation that seeks to give observers and participants a sense of stepping back in time. Tony strives to reach a very high level of authenticity. Being an historian with an extensive knowledge base this is easily accomplished. He also gives Living History lectures which have been receiving many compliments, even by University professors.

Tony played Sam Gregory in the Channel 5 documentary 'The Real Dick Turpin'.

Other Interests

Tony on the horse Baron - Martial Arts; He gained a third degree black belt in Wado Ryu karate and a brown belt in Shudokan Aikido. Both of which have been very useful in his work as a VIP bodyguard.
- Swordfighting; He is trained in both ancient and medieval swordfighting.
- Guns; He knows about all sorts of guns both black powder and modern.
- Archery; Which is useful if you're Robin Hood.
- Horseriding; Accomplished horserider, he has worked in jousting teams all over the UK.
- Glass and Fire walking He does this for charities.
- Stunts; He is a stuntman and has also taught other people how to fall, roll, the use of crash mats, blank firing guns and choreographing fights with and without weapons.
- SWAT; Special Weapons And Tactics, learning the ways of a special operations operative.
- Music; drums and vocals (tenor).
- Accents; Birmingham, Black Country, Cockney, Dublin, Geordie, Irish, London, Northern Irish, Scottish, Scottish Highlands, Boston, Californian, New York City.
- Absailing and free climbing; Anything that has a sense of danger.
