Tim Burkhalter
Tim Burkhalter (born October 11, 1960) was elected SHERIFF of Floyd County, Georgia, in November of 2004. Sheriff Burkhalter is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in Floyd County.
Biography
Tim Burkhalter was born at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia, and raised in Floyd County. He attended Pepperell High School and graduated in 1979. Soon after he graduated he attended Jacksonville State University, where he studied Criminal Justice. Burkhalter worked for the Sheriff’s Department for nearly 20 years, serving almost every position, before he was announced sheriff. He is a certified P.O.S.T. (Peace Officers Standards and Training). Burkhalter helped organize the fundraiser Cops For Kids. Burkhalter is an active member of the Floyd County Bomb Squad, where he is a certified technician and fugitive investigator.
Election
Tim Burkhalter first ran for sheriff in 2004 against the incumbent sheriff, Tommy Rickman, and from the republican party, Steve Hulsey. He ran for the position again for the next term in 2008.
Cops For Kids
Cops For Kids is a softball tournament fundraiser in which all the proceeds go to the Special Olympics. The softball tournament raises between $2,500 to $3,500 each year.
