Thomas Whiteside (photographer)

Thomas Whiteside is an American photographer working in New York City. He is known for his work with major magazines as well as his 2016 book, Route 1, Mike and India.

Life and career

Whiteside studied painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His 2014 portrait of Taylor Swift gained attention for her visual transformation, and in the Fall of 2016, Whiteside photographed Michelle Obama in her final months at the Whitehouse.

Exhibitions and Publications

Photography by Whiteside has been featured in publications such as Interview, Vogue, and W Magazine among others. In 2016, Whiteside released his book Route 1, Mike and India. This book documents his time traveling along Route 1 in Iceland with his boyfriend, artist Michael Bailey-Gates, and artist India Salvör Menuez. Route 1, Mike and India contains an introduction by artist Chloe Wise.

Whiteside's work was shown in the exhibit Youth Explosion: The New Bohemia at the Czech Center in New York City.
