Thethri (Devanagari: ठेठरी) is a traditional savoury snack from the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. It is made primarily from gram flour (besan) mixed with spices, shaped into strips or small pieces, and deep-fried until crisp. The snack is commonly prepared during festivals and special occasions and is often served with tea.

Preparation

Thethri is prepared by kneading gram flour with salt and spices such as carom seeds (ajwain). The dough is shaped into thin strips or small elongated pieces and deep-fried in oil until golden brown and crunchy. Due to its low moisture content, it can be stored for several days in an airtight container.

Cultural significance

Thethri is an important part of festive cuisine in Chhattisgarh. It is often prepared during traditional festivals such as Hareli, Teej, and Pola. The snack is frequently mentioned along with other regional delicacies such as Khurmi in discussions of Chhattisgarhi cuisine.
