The Vetos
The Vetos is a midwest American street punk band from Green Bay, Wisconsin. The group was formed in 2001 by vocalist/bassist Fletcher "Puke" and Adam "Gravy" with influences that include 80's hardcore bands like Minor Threat, Black Flag, DOA; and '77 era punk bands like The [...] and The Ramones. The current lineup includes the two founding members and also Nick "Prick" on guitar.
The band has released two albums:
"Still Fighting" was released in 2004.
"Piss 'Em Off" was released in 2006.
Lyrical content of the group consists of political and social issues. The group is communist, and several lyrics reflect those IDeaS of working class rebellion and corporate corruption reform. Some songs focus on personal changes rather than governmental reforms, such as the ska-inspired track, "Open Up Your Head:"
"I don't wanna go smoke pot
I don't want my brain to rot
I don't wanna go do speed
I don't want what I don't need
I don't think I'm better than you
But I don't make the choices you do"
While The Vetos are not a straight edge band, they have adopted several of the concepts and the playing style of the early 80s straight edge punk movement. Their ideas of personal responsibility and maturity are often in stark contrast to the drinking and drugs LifeStyle that is common among most street punk bands.
