The Skyline Drive
The Skyline Drive is an American Rock Band which was formed in Enterprise, Alabama in 2006. Similar bands include The All-American Rejects, Mae, and Jimmy Eat World (Who are also cited in numerous InterViews as being the band's biggest influence).
Members
The Skyline Drive consists of singer-songwriter Cliff Sims, who also plays piano and guitar, drummer Brian Sims, lead guitarist James Beck, guitarist Brian Redahan, and bassist Blake Longsworth. All of the members of the Pop Rock quintet are founding members of the group with the exception of Blake Longsworth who previously toured with hardcore band, The Endurance, and the ambient rock band Gwenevere before joining The Skyline Drive in late 2006.
Trains, Planes & Automobiles
The band released their first full length album entitled "Trains, Planes, & Automobiles" independently during the first week of October 2007. Famed producer Billy Hume produced and mixed the album in Atlanta, Georgia. Notable songs off of the album include "Out there Tonight" "Summer Days" "I Will Stand" and the emotional single "Carry On" which was written in memory of one of their friends who was tragically killed when a tornado hit their hometown high school, [...] 8 students.
In a number of interviews, the band has said that the album was written over an approximately 6 month period in which they had taken to the road for the first lengthy period of time. The travel theme is one that obviously plays a big role in the album, hence the title and travel references throughout, most notably during "Summer Days" in which the band even mentions several major Interstate Highways by name.
The album has not, as of yet, been released through any national distribution channels but is set for digital distribution through all major online retailers at the end of November 2007.
Philanthropy
The Skyline Drive is well known in their hometown for their charitable endeavors. After the aforementioned tornado, The Skyline Drive organized a benefit concert in cooperation with Dothan, AL radio station WKMX which included another historically charitable band, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. The estimated monetary donation following this concert was in excess of $50,000.
The band's trend of supporting local causes continued on Sept. 29 at the bands album release concert at the Dothan Civic Center Arena. Part of the proceeds from this event where donated to local area public school music programs which the band cite as being instrumental in their own personal and MusicAL development.
