The first Ostinato Brothers album Go Commando, was released in 2012.

Background

The Ostinato Brothers were created when award-winning composers, artists, and producers Greg Laporta and Ernie Savage elected to brand their musical partnership. The two began working together in the early 1990’s at National Sound, a post production film and television facility, formerly located in New York City.

Laporta is an accomplished pianist, keyboardist and classically trained orchestrator, whose album of original solo piano compositions, titled A Shorter Line was released in 2008.

He has also contributed MIDI orchestrations and score enhancements to numerous feature films, while working under auspices of oscar winning composer, Howard Shore. These include Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings Trilogy and Martin Scorsese's The Departed.

Savage is a veteran session guitarist, vocalist, and former bandleader. Savage’s album of jump blues and big band jazz, which was titled Swing This, was released in 2000.

Together they have composed and produced scores, themes and promos for film and television that have included NBC’S Early Today Show, PBS Kids, Shark Hunters, and the documentary, “Running in High Heels”. In 2005, Savage and Laporta won the Promax Gold Award for their musical theme to the popular TV series The Best and Worst of Tred Barta, which aired on Comcast’s Outdoor Life cable network.

In 2012, the pair were responsible for launching the idea The Ostinato Treatment.

The Ostinato Treatment

The brothers have launched an online competition called The Ostinato Treatment. The service affords songwriters an opportunity to obtain a fully produced master of the demo they have submitted via upload to The Ostinato Brothers website.

The song post that garners the most votes each month is arranged, recorded, mixed and mastered by The Ostinato Brothers. The songs however must be originals, to which the songwriter holds the rights. Fox5NY News referred to the Treatment as a "free makeover".

The songwriter is given total ownership of the master, to do with whatever he or she likes. Each version of the Ostinato Treatment is accompanied by an instrumental mix, on which a songwriter or artist may overdub vocal tracks. Each winning song has The Ostinato Treatment revealed to its songwriter in person, typically via a Skype call. This unique moment is captured and then turned into a webisode which is permanently featured on the Ostinato Brothers’ website, along side the song’s original demo and the song’s Ostinato Treatment master.
