The johns
The johns are a post-punk, dark-wave disco band. The johns formed in 2005 under the pretense of starting riots and getting people to dance. They have established themselves a cult favorite in their hometown of NYC and beyond. The johns first toured in the summer of 2006, subsequently touring in February of 2008 in support of The johns Wanna Dance.
Their self-produced debut release The johns Wanna Dance (November 2007) received rave reviews, most emphatically by LOGO's Julie Bolcer who described the first two singles, "Throughout the tune, 'Shake It,' vocalist Johnny P. sounds like Joey Ramone with more dramatic flair, supported by the epic flourishes of keyboards. Meanwhile, the lead single, 'I Want It Bad,' finds the singer with a twangy inflection, surrounded by a formula of mean guitar and rapid rhythms that could be described as white trash thrash." Their video, "Shake It", directed by documentary film maker Aaron Brookner, has gone on to be Video of the Week on LOGO's NewNowNext and Click List for 9 months.
The johns most recent release, D-U-M-B ep has been well received by fans and critics alike. They played 3 shows during NYC's CMJ music festival grabbing buzz and fans. New Year's Eve 2008, they played their star-turn with Semi Precious Weapons and Titus Andronicus to a sold out crowd at Public Assembly in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. UK Magazine NME recently tapped The johns to play their Club NME show at The Annex in NYC. The johns are going on tour this summer with Tall Black Girls who they used to share a practice space with in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
The current line-up is Johnny Pizzolato, frontman, Derek Bishop, keys/synthesizers, Jon Ream, drums, and Javier Quiroz, guitar.
They have listed Jon Cromett and Jamie King as bass players in the past.
