The Inlaw Josie Wales

The Inlaw Josie Wales is a Phish song written by Trey Anastasio, released on the 2000 album, Farmhouse. The name is an obvious parody of the movie title The Outlaw Josey Wales and was penned by Phish keyboardist Page McConnell.

This song first made its debut during a Trey Anastasio Band tour in 1999, when it was known as Minestrone. It was originally a Trey solo acoustic instrumental song before its Phish debut. When Phish debuted it in the opening show of the fall 1999 tour, the other three members of the band grabbed an acoustic guitar and provided minimum accompaniment. It is also notable for its inclusion during the 7+ hour Big Cypress set.

The official title that the song is now known as was revealed during a Trey solo performance at the Tibet House in New York's Carnegie Hall.

In the album version, Bela Fleck (banjo) and Jerry Douglas (dobro) Contribute to the recording.
