The Hague African Festival

The Hague African Festival is an annual festival celebrated in the city of the Hague, The Netherlands. The festival was initiated by the African migrant organisation SANKOFA Foundation.

The festival offers a window on today's Africa, focusing on the richness of African cultural heritage and contemporary developments in African cultures. There is strong emphasis on programming a representative African music, with an eye for tradition and innovation. The festival is deliberately chosen to show the visitor 'the African way of life".

The Hague African Festival is a natural and welcoming meeting place for all residents of The Hague: an international top event for an international city, with which this city is still firmly on the cultural world card. The festival hosts a lively, vibrant and versatile African Market with dozens of market stalls, and an African Village where ongoing presentations, discussions and performances take place.

The venue

Previously hosted at Zuiderpark in The Hague, the festival was moved to the centre of the city to make it more accessible to the audiences. For this reason, the 2012 EDition was themed, "Africa in the City".
