The Diary (band)
- This article is AbOUT the band The Diary. For the album by Scarface see The Diary.
The Diary is an electronic/synthpop MusicAL group based in Orange County, CA. It is the solo project of Claude S of Anything Box. The Diary began as an experimental departure from Anything Box after three albums and lots of touring. The first album by The Diary was Page One released in 1995 on Orangewerks. It was quite a departure from what fans were used to as influences of Joy Division are noticeable throughout the album. Gone are the dance-floor beats of Anything Box and the result is a somber, moody, album with a much darker tone. Claude experiments with sampled and synthetic guitar and bass sounds and the lyrical content GeneRally reflecting a mood of sadness and depression. The album included a popular cover of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart".
After focusing on Anything Box for the years following the initial Diary Project. Claude began experimenting once again as a break from the band in 2004. He experimented by playing several INSTRUMENTS on his own including live drums. His lyric writing has taken focus on himself and his own personal history, beliefs and feelings. Due to the personal nature, The Diary was resurrected and a New album, Separate was released in 2005 on Presswerk.13. Unlike the dark tones of the first Diary album, Separate is a lo-fi experiment influenced by 70's rock and punk with the majority of the albums tracks being autobiographical.
