The Brothahood
The Brothahood is Australia's first Islamic Hip-Hop group, based in Melbourne. The group consists of four young men who grew up in Melbourne. Their music seeks to break down negative stereotypes attributed to Muslims by the media, their lyrics touch on issues of discrimination, spirituality and battling injustice.
The group started in 1999, performing regularly at protests, benefit events, youth camps and multi-faith/cultural events. They are planning to release an album by November 2007.
The group have appeared on radio stations in the UK as well as Australian radio Triple J, ABC radio, SBS radio and are currently working with London artists Mecca2Medina on a collaborative track.
They have produced a music clip for their track battling racism and discrimination, 'The Silent Truth' which can be viewed on youtube or their official myspace page.
The Brothahood were featured in a 4 part documentary series produced by Rebel Films for SBS Australian Television called 'Halal Mate' which looks into the stories of four Melbournian Muslims.
