The Bash (band)
The Bash is a Canadian-based cover band formed in 2005. Noted for their ability to perform any song regardless of genre, the group has quickly taken the world by storm thanks to near-perfect performances that include unique song mash-ups, explosions, confetti, and audience participation. The group is also well known for its eclectic repertoire, which includes songs by artists from the 1930's to current hits by singers such as Lady Gaga and Kesha. Other multifarious and seemingly random (although quite popular) song choices, such as the themes from "Family Matters" and "Full House", are a Bash set staple.
History
Little has been revealed AbOUT the formation of the group, or has been contradictory. Some claims have been made reporting that the current members are blood-related, while others refute this.
Supposedly signed to NY-based Victory Records (unconfirmed) early in their career as an original act under several different names (including "The Gash" and "The Gorilla Boner"), the group made their switch to cover music in the early spring of 2008. Performing in various venues on Long Island and around the world, the Bash has amassed a tremendous fan base that continues to spread like an out of control brush fire.
Present
The Bash continues to perform, with various secret shows scheduled for 2010 in various countries. The band allegedly does not take bookings from public venues at the present time, but some clubs have claimed to have the group scheduled for a performance in the near future.
Yuri Bash/Tiger Woods Affair
On December 2, 2009, reports began to surface (Associated Press, TMZ, etc.) amidst the Tiger Woods accident/scandal that the group's vocalist Yuri Bash was involved in a sordid affair with Woods in the past. Neither Woods' nor the Bash's camps have commented on the situation, although Yuri is reportedly "heartbroken" by the situation, and as of February 21, 2010, both camps have remained quiet.
Ziggy Bash abduction claims
Guitarist Ziggy, despite being a notorious recluse, has made various claims that he was abducted by extraterrestrials and flown on numerous crafts throughout space. Supposedly, Ziggy had a metallic implant removed from his jaw in 2006, but doctors have not made any statements regarding the composition of the removed material.
The abduction claims have drawn a great amount of interest from fans of the group due to an incident which occurred in 2008 that led to the group playing cover songs. Ziggy has claimed on multiple occasions to have been visited by a group of extraterrestrials who informed him that if the group did not stop writing music and begin playing cover songs, the Earth would be "invaded and destroyed". Seemingly choked up and holding back tears in a radio interview, Ziggy stated that the group was behind the idea 100% after being told of the incident, although this has neither been confirmed nor denied by Bash representation.
Song controversy
The Bash has drawn the ire of several American heritage groups due to their inclusion of a bizarre medley which includes the American National Anthem, which is preceded by the hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and succeeded by the theme song to popular 90's sitcom "Beverly Hills 90210". Many have lashed out at the group, claiming that the mash-up of songs is disrespectful to the United States. The Bash camp offered no comment, although the groups current drummer Sticky Bash oddly enough has denied the songs existence regardless of video and audio documentation on numerous occasions. Since the controversy erupted, the Bash has closed many of their sets with this medley, even reportedly playing it 2 or 3 times in a row.
Similar displeasure toward the group began to brew following a recent show in 2010 from various Jewish and Eastern-European groups after the Bash began to include a mash-up of folk song "Hava Nagila" with the 2003 hit song "Milkshake" by Kelis. The song has been described as being "in poor taste" and "utterly ridiculous".
