The Baptist Home

The Baptist Home is a Missouri not for profit IRS 501(c)(3) corporation that operates retirement homes and nursing homes in Missouri. It was founded in 1913 by Dr. Milford Riggs and Mary Riggs.

It operates three Continuum of Care Retirement Communities in Missouri that offers ACTIVE Living apartments, Assisted Living apartments and various levels of nursing care. The campuses are located near Ironton, Missouri, and in Ozark, Missouri and Chillicothe, Missouri. A fourth campus is being planned near Ashland, Missouri. In addition to senior living services, The Baptist Home provides aging consultation and educational services. It is also actively involved in global aging missions having provided expertise and assistance in China, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine. The Baptist Home Is governed by a board of trustees and is dedicated to providing quality of care and aging services to older adults. It has fraternal relationships with churches and associations of the Missouri Baptist Convention, Baptist General Convention of Missouri (ChurchNet), Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and the Southern Baptist Convention.

History 1913 - 1932 Milford Riggs, Founder

             May 6, 1913: First Home in Ironton opens its doors
                    1917: Home recognized by the Missouri Baptist General Association
                    1919: 175 acres purchased for future Home in Arcadia Valley
                    1923: new Home completed

1932 - 1953 D.J. Scott, Superintendent

              April 1935: Home is sold on the courthouse steps
               June 1935: Home is purchased back "for $1 and other considerations" 

1953 - 1974 John Burney, Superintendent

                    1972: Superintendent reports "no indebtedness on any Home property" 

1975 - 1996 Edward Goodwin, Executive Director

                    1977: Legal name changed to "The Baptist Home"
                    1981: Trustees establish Revocable Trust Fund, basis for new admission policy
                    1984: 38 acres purchased for new home in Chillicothe
                    1988: The Baptist Home - Chillicothe opens its doors
                    1995: Land is purchased in Ozark for a new Baptist Home 

1997 - 2005 Larry Johnson, President

                    1997: The Baptist Home - Ozark opens its doors
                    2000: To protect assets, Trustees establish foundation and self-electing board 
                    2000: Founded The Baptist Home Foundation to support the ministries of The Baptist Home

2006 - present Steven Jones, President

                    2006: Trustees approve support for the House of Mercy near KobrinBelarus
          September 2006: Trustees approve a new admissions policy which removes restrictions based on age, locality and denomination
                    2007: Three patio homes are completed and a new Return of Equity agreement initiated
             Summer 2007: Helped a pastor in China to provide a house for aged Chinese pastors
               Fall 2007: Built new kitchen, atrium and enclosed fire escapes on the Arcadia Valley Campus 
                    2008: Campus plans completed for all three campuses
                    2012: Three additional patio homes completed with a fourth under construction 
             May 4, 2013: Celebrated 100 years of compassionate care and ministry
         January 8, 2014: Purchased 73 acres north of Ashland planned for fourth campus
