The Ark Church
The Ark Church in York England is a Mainstream, Orthodox and Evangelical Christian Church that is Charismatic or Pentecostal in nature and very committed to cooperation with other churches. The Ark works with One Voice1 in York, a cooperative group of churches in the city of York. In 2007, 68 York churches took part in the One Voice programme.
The Ark works nationally as part of the Ground Level network2 and is a group member of the Evangelical Alliance3.
Founded in 2003, The Ark has from day one been committed to the Internet and the church’s main website www.the-ark.net4 began to reach 20,000 visitors a month in early 2007.
Offering message downloads5 and weekly podcast6, the Ark site attracts those wanting to hear ministry and to read the popular ‘Fast Food’7 daily inspiration, or the many feature articles and book reviews8.
Having a contemporary style of worship, the church involves itself in the community and to particular need groups where there is some connection or expertise. Prayer and the centrality of the Bible are fundamental to the life of the Ark Church.
Minister, Stephen Redman9, has written for a couple of Christian magazines and contributes daily to the website. He is a popular speaker in churches and on local radio. He also talks for Candlelighters10 the children’s cancer charity of which he is a Trustee. In addition Stephen serves on the boards of One Voice11 and York School of Theology12.
The Ark also launched a website for York Students to help them connect with local churches in 2005 called www.yorkstudents.org13, and continues to use the Web as a means of reaching out to let people know that God is good and that through Jesus we can all find relationship with God rather than religion.
