Thaheem

The Thaheem are a tribe of Arab origin found in Sindh and Punjab provinces of Pakistan.

History & Origin

The Thaheem claim to be descended from the Bani Tameem, a large tribe still found in the Najd region of Saudi Arabia. According to their traditions, their ancestor Sambhal Shah came to Multan in the 12th Century, and ruled the city for 40 years. He was then defeated, and his tribe was scattered.

During his invasion of India, Tamerlane refers to his confrontation with the Thaheem. The Thaheem were also governors of the Jhang and adjoining Sandal Bar during Mughal rule. According to some traditions, Shaikh Sadallah, the prime minister at the court of the Emperor Shah Jahan came from the Thaheem clan.

Distribution

In Punjab, they are found in Chiniot, Bahawalpur, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Muzaffargarh districts.

In Sindh, they are found in Upper Sindh in Larkana, Shikarpur and Sukkur districts.
